Seeing Laura and Logan fight beside one another is just about as good as it gets for long-time Wolverine fans. These two mutants complement one another very well on the page both in and out of action scenes, but when their blades come out, my oh my is it a thing of beauty. Regardless of how well these two work together, you’re here to find out what I thought about Generations: Wolverine & All-New Wolverine #1 right? Of course, you are, here’s my review…

What’s Generations: Wolverine & All-New Wolverine #1 about? From the publisher:

THE TEAM-UP YOU’VE ALL BEEN ASKING FOR! The death of WOLVERINE shook the Marvel Universe… And the ascension of the ALL-NEW WOLVERINE reimagined what a healing factor and some Adamantium claws can do! But the amazing combination of LOGAN and LAURA is the duo you’ve been waiting for! Tom Taylor, the mind behind ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, brings you GENERATIONS…a double-Wolverine team-up for the ages!”

While I wouldn’t say that this is the team-up that we’ve all been waiting for, seeing Laura and Logan fight beside one another was very satisfying. So much so that knowing that I won’t be able to check in with them once per month saddens me. After reading through Generations: Wolverine & All-New Wolverine #1 I was left wanting more, so overall, I have to say that Tom Taylor’s Logan and Laura team-up was a success.

A key aspect of this book’s success is its beauty. I know, I know, a beautiful Wolverine story that features not one, but two Wolverines? It may sound outlandish, but I assure that this book really is beautiful. First and foremost, seeing Logan and Laura together, interacting alongside one another is a thing of beauty. Ramon Rosanas’ artwork accentuates these beautiful moments by making emotion-envoking scenes even more emotional.

Tom Taylor’s script not only accentuates the beauty of Logan and Laura’s relationship, but also the complexity. He wraps the issue up with an emotional ending that readers are sure to hold onto and ask, “What if?”

My major complaint comes is the story that was chosen for this team team up within. Without spoiling the story, Laura and Logan find themselves battling waves of undead ninjas whilst trying to save someone important to Logan. Why are they here? Who knows. And while starting in the midst of a plot is typically okay with me, this issue lacked the depth of story that I would have liked to have seen. The artwork, and Laura and Logan’s interactions outshine the plot so much that it’s almost nonexistent. Aside from that, I very much enjoyed my reading of this issue and would highly recommend it.
